CONGRATULATIONS HARRY!
CONGRATULATIONS to Deadgame Fight School’s Harry “The Dragonfly” Cruz – professional boxer who just signed a promotional contract with T & K Boxing Promotions. Harry’s is a very unique story. With only 7 amateur fights, Harry turned professional 02/21/20. Fighting unsigned and with no financial support or backing, Harry defied the odds and despite being brought to lose every single time and always fighting on the B side of the card, Harry has had success in earning himself a record of 4 wins and 2 losses, including a win over the current 160 pound NBA Continental Champion Robert Burwell in a non-title fight. Keep in mind, Harry fights at 154 pounds and went into the fight in Burwell’s hometown with a 3-1 record against Burwell’s 9-2 record in addition to Burwell having over 100 amateur fights to his credit. Harry’s first loss came in his second professional bout by way of a majority decision to Angel Ilarraza (who is still currently undefeated). In Harry’s most recent fight, he lost via a doctor stoppage due to a cut against Quatavious Cash (13 Wins 2 losses 160 lbs), who many will remember from the boxing television series, The Contender, Season 5. Anyone who follows boxing realizes it’s no secret that guys don’t ONLY fight their way to the top. In today’s world, successful World Champions become successful with a combination of fighting and buying their way to the top. Financial backers pay opponents to be on the B side in hopes of building a record for the fighters on the A side. Harry has never enjoyed such a luxury, never even seen the A side locker room. For all we know, maybe they have plush carpet, air conditioning and 24 karat gold faucets in the winner’s locker room. Harry has been paid to lose every single time he’s fought, and he’s beat the odds almost 70 percent of the time. That does not typically happen for a guy with only 7 amateur fights, especially considering all of his wins have been by decision. This hasn’t been a Cinderella story and Harry doesn’t have a good luck charm. Harry has an unbelievable work ethic in the gym and heart which not all have. It’s been a wild ride in a short period of time and we’re grateful to God above for the blessing of Harry being signed today (05/01/21) by T & K Boxing Promotions. We are quite hopeful for the future….stay tuned…. -Coach Josh
